Reflective Essay: Project 3

For project two I did my research on note taking so the message I’m trying to send is how note taking helps everybody differently but it is a very effective learning skill. I’m planning on doing my public document for kindergarten children, from ages five to seven. What I’m going to do is a coloring book, and a story explaining how taking notes helped a girl get a very good grade on her test.
For my audience I’m going to have kindergarten children (boys and girls), from ages between 5 and 7. What these kids are most interested in is playing around with other kids. They like creative and fun activities like drawing, coloring, reading them a story, singing, and dancing. They like to be entertained, but they also like to sleep. They learn age appropriate things, like math, science, English, a little bit of everything, they do it with their classmates and they grow together. It is very important to keep all the kids doing something so they don’t get bored. What’s important for them is to have a lot of fun with the other kids. Doing puzzles, crafts, and fun projects is what they like to do everyday, also interacting and playing with other people. They like to have a natural and nice environment, that’s one thing that affects on the way they learn, like if the teacher is in a bad mood and is always mad talking really bad and with a very dark and boring classroom, the kids wont like to be there and they just wont pay attention and they won’t feel secure. They like to do things that they enjoy.
While I’m still not sure what my public document is going to be I want to create something for children between ages 5 to 7. So it is for girls that are and like creativity. And it is not for boys; well it might interest some of them if they like to be creative. What I think I’m planning on doing is something with drawings and for girls to color them; I think I want to do it with very girly colors. I’m still not sure how I’m going to give them the message about note taking, because kids of this age don’t really take notes, they are more interested in playing so I have to figure out a way of making it very fun and playful for them. I really want to send out the message that note taking does improve your learning, and it is very important for them to take notes on their future, maybe not in kindergarten but in high school, middle school, etc. So I decided to do a coloring book, I really want to get kids attention.
I’m planning on doing a coloring book, for children of ages 5 to 7. In that book I’m going to explain how important notes are in a student’s learning. As you are coloring, or just changing pages the drawings are explaining a story. The story is a girl that goes to her history class, and her teacher tells them that they have a test the next day. The girl starts to worry about it, and then her teacher tells them to study their notes. She was stressed out because she didn’t have all of the notes because she was absent, she then asks her friends if she can borrow their notes. The day before the test she studied her notes all day. On the day of her exam she felt prepared. At the end of the day her teacher congratulated her because she did really good, she was the highest grade of the entire class. Before she went home her friends asked her what she does to study, she responded, by saying that it was all in the notes. At the end, her teacher was really happy because on the last test they had all of the students had really good grades, thanks to everybody taking notes. I’m planning on doing it this way because my audience is kindergarten kids, and what they like is to color, to have fun drawings, they like creative things. The message that I’m trying to give to little kids is to take notes on their future; it helps on their learning skills. And I think it is important for them to know since their beginning of their education to always take notes, and it will help them get better grades. I want to do it a certain way so it will get kids attention, like a storybook. With lots of color, I want it to be attractive to them. At the end of the day that’s what kids like, to draw, to paint, to read stories. And of course I want to send the right message, to always study, we might have different learning strategies, but notes works for everybody.
The reason I’m doing it about note taking is because I think taking notes is a big part of a student’s life, it helps them get better grades, understand better, and of course practice their writing, and reading. Teachers have always told me to read my notes before and after class, so the material will get in my head. Also for me to take notes is to first write a word, or something and then their definition, also write your understanding of that word. Also when you’re reading a text, writing little and short notes about it helps you a lot, and when you need to re-read the text you can just read your little notes and it will refresh your memory. I decided to have kids (kindergarten) as my audience because they are young and it is a good advice for them that will help them later in their education, also because I wanted to do a creative public document, and for kids is all about color, fun and playful things. I hope that this project helps others understand about note taking, I did learn a lot by doing my research paper before, and this is just like revising, and going over it.
