What it says is that funds of knowledge are the experiences you acquire while growing up in your household, what you learn from your family and their culture, your culture.

These atudies (among several that we could include), cunducted independently in different regions of the United States and with different ethnolinguistic and age groups, highlight both teachers and children as active learners using languages and literacy as tools for inquiry, communication, and thinking.

It says that teachers and students learn at the same time, because they have to communicate in different ways and using different resources for learning.

Certainly, the starting point for the use of funds of knowledge for teaching need not to be the household visits; this connection can also be mediated.( M&G pg. 170)
This means that not only doing the household visits you discover your funds of knowledge but you can do any type of research that involves the search of community resource. This also means that a teacher should not limit only to a classroom but to see that there are many other things that we could connect to our funds of knowledge.

The role of teachers is to enable and guide activities that involve students as thoughful (and literate) learners in socially and academically meaningful tasks. (Moll and Gonzalez pg.158)

I think this is trying to say that teachers help us out to work together so that things become simpler. So that we can get the meaning of things through team work teachers arent there to boss us around and make us feel judged they are there to help us out.

I think that it is very important for the teachers to understand the student's point of view so they know where they are coming from, and also their background, so they understand the way the student learns.

Due Monday in Class: Your Genogram! you'll be working on your Reading/Writing/Learning(cus as we've seen, they are all connected! :O!!) You can make it look however you want! And remember! they don't have to just focus on reading and writing literal texts! Watching TV, playing a card game, gossiping with your girls: these are also forms of reading and writing! We discussed the fact that your genograms need to be purpose driven, and that means that you have to find a reason, a drive for doing it! consider what's important to you and the connections your making! Follow those connections!

Bring into class Monday: A printed copy of the Sommers article(find it where you found all our other readings! :D) Start reading too! It never hurts to do it before it's due to keep your workload down!

Homework Reminder

We're tryng to catch up whilenot falling behind this week. That means that there will be quite a bit of work, but we'll pull through.

• If you havent read Moll and Gonzalez yet, download the article and do so. SQR3 on Moll and Gonzalez is due tonight on your Personal Blog. I'm going to be pretty librel with the deadline (tonight at 8 or tonight at 3 in the morning. I don't car how late it gets in so long as it's in before Tomorrow morning. : ) )

• Due before class on Wednesday on your Personal Blog: Journal 3, in which you take two quotes (1 from Downs and Wardle and 1 from Hass and flower) and connect them somehow. Feel free to use your experiences to amke sense of the two quotes you picked. : )

• And lastly Print out and read our first assignment: Genograms for P1. You can find it on the blog under the Writing Projects heading.

Homework Reminder.

Campus is closed today! So yes... gosh darnit, that means we won't be having class today. No biggie, this wont get us behind. If anything it gives that much more time to get some reading done! SQR2 is due tonight at midnight(Give or take an hour)! Revise them if you need to and get them up and posted ont your personal blog. If you'd like some feedback from me before you put them up feel free to email them out to me.Having trouble coming up with a question? Feel free to take one of these to respond to:

1. How do you read articles that I assign? Do you read other texts differently or the same? Why?   
2. Try reading a paragraph from D&W and H&F out loud and make yourself say out loud what you're thinking while you're reading (by pausing, of course, in the reading). What kind of reading strategies did you use? Do you have some that H&F did not identify in their study?
3. Describe what happens to you when a piece of reading is “engaging," when you are neutral, and when you are mostly turned off? What seems to be your way of reading, or what are your reading needs.  

 I also want you to download and start reading Moll & Gonzalez. (M&G Discussion Team will present this coming Wednesday.) I want everyone to bring in a draft of their third SQR on Monday. And yes I will be checking on Monday.

I think in my SQR i did god it was sort of difficult to come up wih a way to start it off.i think
That my question was ok i could have asked a better one but i couldnt really tink of one and my responce was okish, i could have worked a little bit better on my grammer it was really bad i know i had a lot of run off sentenses.
