On this class we have been learning with different ways, and some of us learn with different strategies, this could be that different strategies have different characteristics that can help us in different ways, but I think that we learn every day and that we use all the strategies on different times.
Now on this days a lot of us have different perspectives of learning but learning oxides even if you use your understanding to help somebody else, for example using feedback bout of the students learn, the one is giving it and the one is receiving it, the one is receiving have the more advantage to learn from the feedback, because that way he can make some changes and start using some other, for example revising, and in the other hand the one that is giving the feedback is able to learn from the articles that he read by trying to not use the bad strategies that some of them use. Depending on some strategies students can develop more useful strategies that can be used to make a better work, for example something that can be used after you work has been revised and you resaved feedback is to revise your work, for example the feedback is supposed to give you a better point of view of your work, after that you should be able to work on your article or essay and make some changes and rewrite it if is necessary, sometimes it can take a lot of work to make a good paper, for example some students revise their works several times, the first revision can be made to identify the errors, that could be grammatical errors and some other errors could be also errors that do not identify a clear idea, on the second revision they can make all the changes and use all the correct worlds that fit better on the article. Some of the other strategies that we learned on my English class were to learn with Rhetorical Reading strategies, this strategy is based on the meaning that we give to our readings, and this strategy can be used and also can be very helpful, this strategy is useful in different ways, for example this strategy is used when reading and article and the reader can automatically use it, when the student is reading the article have an engaging structure that make the student connect with the article and play a major role in the article, this strategies are very useful, but also there are some of them that are not that useful and important.
On my semester on this class I have been learning a lot of things, that is why we create a lot of questions that are very important in our learning, this questions are also teaching us good lessons that we can learn in different ways, and some of the ways that I learning was that when we ask questions there are answers and that crate more question, something that is good because we can learn different answer just asking one question. At the beginning of the semester I entered this class asking myself many questions, some of them were; what are the strategies for learning? What are the best strategies of learning? And when can we use the strategies? These questions were answered quickly, but these questions leaded to more questions, and that was good because some of the answers were very helpful without thinking of it. On this class I also learned from the other from our conversation, in fact with the conversations we can create some strategies, for example pear response, this strategy is used with the thinking that other students have about your work, also conversation is part of one of my favorite strategies, team work, with the conversation I developed a strategy that can be used in group, and this is very helpful because students can learn from their classmates in case they cannot learn from their teachers for any reason.
On this class we learned also about other students that have different classes and different points of views, on this class we did some investigations and surveys that helped us to learn how other students learn, and what I discovered is that students from different classes and on different grades use some of the strategies that we use and some of them develop their own strategies that are very similar to those that we use, what it tells me is that these strategies are some of the best strategies and also the more effective.
On the SQRs something that I did was to exprese all my ideas that I had about about the articles, for example at the beginning I started explaining the article with my own words, then I created a question that lead me to several answers explaining the how what the article is showing to us and how we can be able to receive that information in a correct way, on my project I learned a lot of thing, this was because I was able to ask some questions to several students that have really good answers.
Taking this class have helped me a lot on my improvement of my learning, especially on reading and writing, because now I use this strategies to help myself on the majority of my activities that I do daily, so this way I can gain more experience and also have a better understanding of these strategies.

Reflective essay revised Luis M
The time I enter this class it was my first class in the university, the state, in the country, I'm from Mexico and I just got here this semester, and I know I don't have that good English, but I'm doing my best effort, and it was so difficult to me this class, because I'm not used to write too much, not even in my natal language that it's Spanish, but in this class literally I just “blow my mind”, in this class I just enter with my basic English that was not to good, only knew the basis, bad grammar and no sense of composition and sentence structure.
And although everything is a process there is always one goal, and in this class the goal for me is for everyone to improve their writing skills and reading strategies for any further courses, and this class it would help me a lot on all my classes in the future, in this class I learn so many methods about writing and writing, and obviously in the process I had so many questions that in the time it were changing and even now I still have questions, and this is good because that way I showed to me that I was doing my best effort in class, and for me the question that I kept all along the semester is. “What is rhetorical reading?” and this question with each article that I read it was changing, and when in the future I enrolled on advanced English courses it will still change, and this is good because over time I would be an experience writer and reader, and this is only with the practice, so this is the reason it´s this class, to practice a lot, to write about everything we want. Our preferment topics with we feel good talking about them, and also on the articles they were interesting, a bit long some of them, but useful on all ways.
This class also did something important on all the semester, “peer response”, we work with our classmates, we discuss with them the articles, argue about our projects, and always there was different opinions, sometimes you just were not interested on what they say, but sometimes they view one angle that you didn´t see and it was the same as important as the other ones, that´s why this method of work it was very useful for me, like when we do revisions and get feedback, it was always a challenge, try to respond them in the easiest way for all to understand, and that´s so difficult because all people think different, and more in our class, where everyone is going to study different majors, some engineer, like un my case, other science or medicine, and everyone thinks in a different way, like me all the things I do I want it to be simple and clear for everyone, all the information you need, but that´s it, no things that just is there cause it just look interesting, we, the engineers, in our reports just put what is necessary, but this class is totally the opposite of this, in this class, for example the projects, you talk about everything, view all the angles, all the possible cases that it could be, and this for me is annoying, because something that we can do in one short paragraph, we do a whole project about it, and this is the challenge, well it was for me all the semester, and being realistic, I enjoy it, because it was new for me, and I was used to work in a different manner, for example, over there in Mexico, there is not that important to put other person ideas and not to quote, but here this is to seriously, you can be expel of the university for something like this, and I work this way not giving importance to this, and in the beginning with this thing I had problems on all my courses, until one professor told me why I was having problems, and this help me a lot and encourage to work in the correct way, and it´s better because you learn a lot of more.
Also I had not clue of what was an SQR before this class, but by the time I noticed that this is a very useful method for reading articles because you firs read and do a brief summary of what you understand and then is the most interesting part, the question and the response, it's very interesting because you in this part you noticed if you really understand the read, and before this class I never write to much because in my old schools they didn't assigned works about this, and it was not on my personal interesting to write, but this class change it all.
In conclusion I enter this class just knowing the basics of writing and reading, but by this time I feel like I´m a very experienced reader and writer, because I did a lot of practice and help me a lot, like now I know so many ways of investigations that may help me in all the courses, and I want to thank the professor, that since kinder garden I think had never worried about their students the way she did, and it feels good to know there are still professor like her, because actually all the professors are just worried about the grades of the students, not on what their learned, also the girls that help us all the semester and the materials with we worked that are the ipads, so useful all the semester. I think this class help me a lot in different ways and I will take advantage in my future classes with the things I learned this semester.

Since the start of your academic life, writing is emphasized each and every year. Yet year after year the ideas of what writing is, changes. In your first years of school you are taught the alphabet and then move on to composing words and reading them, later yo are taught to put words together and create a sentence; a compound of words that includes a "who" and "what". No one ever told you that it had to be interesting or that it had to make sence, as long as it was spelled correctly. This idea was not changed, but expanded all throughout the rest of my school years. I graduated highschool with the idea that in order to keep a teacher satisfied you have to make sure that your punctuation, spelling, and grammar was correct.
My firsst year of college i ended up needing to take a remedial writing course because i wasn't a strong enough witer. I agreed with that label put on me by our schools academic system. I failed the class one semester because the proffessor was theoretically unable to teach, he knew about what he was teaching, he just didnt know how to explain it. The second semester, i jumped back into the same course, aprehensive and scared to the point of desperation. I wanted to pass the course so badly, but was overwhelmed with fear of not being able to complete the work needed. I started off pretty well, the teacher was a very enthusiastic, involved, and motive person. She had the class read articles about how well educated a student is in writing and reading their freshmen year of college, and the different theories in a students reading and writing abilities. Where after, we would discuss the articles among the class, i have to admit, during the discussions i was not only intrigued but surprised at all the different ideas, contradictions and experiences, all withdrawn from those articles. Then came the projects, I was very excited because we were given the privilege of choosing what we wanted to write about, usually i would just have to write about what ever it is that the teacher said, but this was a new and enjoyable experience. So many ideas came to mind, but i could only choose one, being that i am a very proud person, i chose to write about where it is we learn from and my bilingualism, it all comes from ethnic, religious, and social backgrounds. i thought my projects were pretty well written, that is, untill i got feedback from both classmates, and my teacher. She had so many ideas on how to make my paper ten times better. I then realized what the word "edit" actually means. You see, in high school editing was just correcting grammar, bad spelling, and adding punctuation. Thats all that most of us as students are taught to do, which is why alot of us are not very succsessful that first year at college. I learned that "editing" was not only about correcting, it was about adding and explaining. Editing was about interveing within your ideas and bringing out some more of them, while explaining and giving examples, all this just to make your paper better, not by making it longer but by making it more interesting.I had so many ideas on things to write about, yet at the end i might still end up failing my writing course once again, i dont know what it is, i just dont feel motivated when i am not in the class room. Being in that class influences me to simply, write. Ive been given so many chances to pass, yet i dont take any of them, i try little by little, but trying is not only good enough, thats what i learned this semester from this class, it was not taught to me, but i learned it. You can try all you want, but it doesnt mean you will succeed. The only success in wrting is when you put out everything you have to offer, dedication, will, determination, aprehension of time, motivation, these are all x-factors in your success.
This semester has been a wonderful experience, now that it is over, i consider myself a 100% improved writer, i now enjoy writing when before i dispised it. Im glad i got to be a part of this experience, i would not have been as successful if it wasnt for the incredibly helpful teacher, she unlike most, mativates you and actually wants you to pass. The fellow classmates that helped eachother by giving feedback and asking questions to improve eachothers work. And the class was great because of the ipads, i dont know how well we would have been able to apehend our work it was not for the ipads that were lended to us so that we may succeed. This semester i leave filled with satisfaction, all my life i have greatly hated reading and writing, and now this class has opened a stream of ideas and possibilities that can come from within myself in order to achieve success not only in writing, but in anything i set my self to do.

P4: Leo -REVISED
This classroom has been one of the most interesting experiences I’ve had at this University so far. The professor, the students, the readings, the classroom, it all just worked. When I first had to sign up for this developmental english course, I was apprehensive because the thought of two whole periods of english seemed like it would drag on and on. I mean how much can we learn about english? I never expected to learn so much and be actually intrigued and genuinely interested in the subject.
Throughout my high school english classes I never had interest in learning to write or read. I never found it my thing, although I always tried to pass and did. Coming to this class I brought what my high school teachers had prepared me with to start college english. I was taught to read articles, break them apart and build them up with my own meaning. Annotating was always a huge help in taking long articles and fully understanding them. I never enjoyed reading for fun, but I had build up a vocabulary from high school course work that helped me get through most readings. I also brought the knowledge of structure writing to this class, although it was only one(five paragraph format: in which goes with intro, three main points as the body and the final paragraph with the conclusion). One of the most important aspects of my knowledge that i brought to this class was the idea of academic writing, which is writing in a form or style that is serious which consists of arguments, ideas, theories, or investigations. These gatherings of my knowledge really helped me all throughout this class, from the SQRs to the Projects.
In the beginning of the semester we started started with reading the articles and writing SQRs, which was a little hard to read all articles while still keeping up with all of my other assignments put on my all my professors. It was getting used to the readings which was the most difficult part for me. Once we begun Haas& Flower to Gillam it flowed much smoother. I thought SQRs were a great way for me to actually begin to have conversations with the arthur without realizing i was doing it. I believe this helped me and even pushed me to complete readings all the articles. Having to write a summary was so helpful to myself, because I then I wouldn’t just read to finish instead I would read to learn. This is were I began to realize that the content of the articles were not boring anymore, they all made sense(maybe not completely but all in someway did). I really grasped what the authors were trying to say, and it was so interesting how all the articles connected and flowed so well. It just all made sense to read about reading and writing.
The technology in the classroom was a huge change from what other classes were doing, they made the discussions, blogging and feedback work in another level. Again it did take time to get used to having all the work online, maybe having set more time to develop us as students to the technology would have been a better entrance to the studio. All the discussions we had in class using the boards and desks were entertaining yet very thoughtful. It kept me on my feet when trying to discuss ideas. Working in groups was a huge advantage for me this semester in the classroom, it made me see and realize what other people thought about certain ideas. I think working in groups was a contribution to all the discussions we had, it made it more dynamic and easier for everyone to participate. Using the blog to learn was interesting, I struggled a bit to get used to the idea of such informal writing but I liked that ideas was what the blog was about. This just made sense once again, I mean now I know that writing is about ideas. So it can not be right or wrong.
I think the projects in the classroom was were we were put to the test and to try to incorporate the knowledge we learned from the readings. These were our tests. Starting from project one, I had the idea but didn’t know how to get started to create this “thing”. I think I was left in the clouds because I honestly didn’t exactly know what was wanted from us. Once we started generating ideas and having discussions on our ideas, it made it all much more clear. I could have made a much better effort to project one, but I think being the first project and not knowing what would be graded and how, and not being able to yet express my ideas clearly was what made it hard. As we moved on to project two, I had a much better idea what was wanted out of us, which was thoughtful and insightful ideas and theories. This is when I started to realize what writing entailed, which was the thought behind all the writing. I had a better sense of what I was doing, and more importantly I knew the way I thought which for me is a very important part of learning to write. For me I must realize what I want to say and think before I write. The research that we had to do in project two was a new thing for me, I had never done actual surveys or interviews, so it was intimidating. Finishing up with project three I had a strong and clear idea what my interest was, and a better understanding of what kind of writer I am. I focused my last two project in peer response. I think we could have used more time on project three, to be honest it seemed rushed. I think I could of developed a better theory to represent the project, and even improve the project.
Revision weeks were a blur to me, they all seemed to move extremely fast. I think that because we revised all projects at the same time rather than doing revision right after each project (which would of worked better for me) it all made it tough to keep up with what was what. At this time I realized that even though I do appreciate the time we are given to write in class, I much rather write and revise in a more isolated place. It is because I like to keep a quiet place to think, and the classroom was not always quiet. It was overwhelming to revise two projects with the amount of feedback given to me. This is were I had the most difficulty to narrow down all the feedback and revise what I thought was necessary. Revision takes time, so maybe it would have been better for me personally to revise each project individually instead of waiting till the end and revising all three the last weeks of class. Revising project two was the hardest, specially because it was such an extensive work. It consisted of so many parts from reading readings again to going over data. All that took time.
Throughout this semester in the studio I’ve learned what it is writing consists of, which for me are the ideas and theories. I’ve learned to analyze the way I write and think, which is extremely helpful to write for me. I’ve learned to understand what others have to say and learn to appreciate everyones opinions and ideas. This class not only helped me as a writer, but also as a person. I now look forward to taking 1302 which I know the content will all be interesting to me, I just hope the professor is equally or if not better.

School is a place where we should be developing our own abilities of learning, it could be in different ways, for example in school we have a lot of teachers and it does not mean that we should learn everything from them, we can also learn from our classmates or from our tutors, it could be for so many different reasons, for example some students do not learn from teachers because students think that they are boring, that is why they decide to learn from a tutor or from a friend this could be because friends make the things interesting for us, for example many students learn in groups because they have the benefit to learn from their peers responses, this is a very good strategy that shows that even peers can help each other’s with their responses.
In class we can communicate with our teachers, classmates and tutors but who is the person who can help you the most, in class when we are in groups we can learn from each other, but it could be easier to be a part of a team instead of a group, in groups we just do what we need to do, and sometimes some of our group mates do not know what to do, that is why groups would work more as teams, because in teams we work with the help of each other, on learning we always need somebody else to learn because if we want to learn something the most of the time we are not going to be able to learn it, that is why we always have somebody else to teach us, for example teachers, coaches, family, and on this case our own friends. In teams when a player is closer to the goal, he should be able to score, this is something that we should be able to do in our groups, for example when the teacher ask for something the group should be able to talk about the question, and if some of the group members does not know anything about the subject their groups mates should be able to teach them and that way they could also learn from their friends, this is how a group should helping each other, because sometimes teachers are not able to teach some students, and this can also happen with the tutors, for example in sports we always have somebody else that is able to teach us what we need to do, because sometimes couches are very busy to help us.
In school there are a lot of cases that students learn in a different way for example they learn from tutors this is because tutors have different methods of teaching and because they need to learn it for the same reason, for example tutors have to learn because they are students too and have an understand of how students learn, this can be a teamwork activity too, for example tutors can be part of a team too, for example tutors can be the experimented players and that way they can teach the beginners, this is something that happen several times that can be representing teams, this is because sometimes there are a lot of tutors and there are able to teach each team, and also becoming part of it.
Family can also become part of our team, in my case I always think about my family and about what they have been teaching me, when I was little my mom used to teach how to read and write, because she was a teacher, also my family want be to be like them so that is why they are my role models, also my cosign has become one of the bust important persons for me, this is because he has been helping me , and I want to be as good as he is in school, and in everything else because if we are good in school we can be good in everything else, so I can say he is one of my coaches, and that is why I want to be as important as my family.
Teamwork is an important activity that everyone needs to have in their lives; I think this is a good method of learning because every person can do everything better with the help of their friends and family, and also we can learn from them just with their presence, and this is actually, for example an athlete that is about to perform on the could have a lot of confidence if his family is looking at him, this is because he feels the presence of the people that the appreciate because he learned from them.
My project is a good idea to represent this strategies, and I choose to do it in a simple paper because my audience are students and this is a simple way that they can pay attention to these strategies, and these strategies can be used by students because they are the ones that want to learn, it can be also use by teachers but it is easier for students because they are the ones that apply these strategies on their classes, this is also not a good idea because students that do not pay much attentions they are not going to be aware of this strategies.

Have you ever felt that your writing isn't good? Have you ever think that reading is boring? Well none of this questions is true, they are all lies. From the moment we learn how to write we are writers. There is no one that is a bad writer. When I first came to this classroom I was very very scared because I used to think that writing was a very complex procedure. I used to think that only a few people could write. The first day i was expecting another kind of teacher. I was expecting someone strict, someone that wouldn't care about content in your writing, someone that wouldn't care about students, but for my surprise the teacher that came in was something else. She told us that if we know how to write, we are writers. I dare to say that for many of us this was something new, we have always think that grammar, orthography and all of that stuff was most important than content; but it wasn't true.
My experience with english before this class was ok. Since I was a little girl I have took english classes because english is not my first language, my first language is spanish, so I have been familiarized with both languages since then. When I was little I used to hate going to English classes because I used to think that writing and reading in English was boring. When I became 10, I read my first book in English, and it was a whole new world in there. I found out that reading in english was as exciting as reading in spanish, so since then I started to develop my reading skills in a more active way.
Unluckily for me, my writing skills were not as good as my reading skills. I hated to write in english because I used to think that everything was wrong or had grammar mistakes or something like that. When teachers told me to make essays I freaked out because I had no idea of how to make essays, I was so afraid of making mistakes or sound bad, that I preferred to do nothing. In that time I would never ever imagined that someday I would be writing an eight hundred words essay, not even in my dreams, writing was something very far for me.
This class has helped me to Improve my writing skills in a way that any other class has. When I made my thea test, I failed my writing section twice, I felt hopeless and insecure. Few days ago the test was applied to a group of students, my self included, and for my surprise I passed! I couldn't believe the numbers in the sheet of paper in my hands, I was just stunned. This class has made me a writer, and a real one. Now I feel confident about myself, and I know that I can write, no matter what some teachers say, I can write, and my writings are good.
I think that the things that help me the most were peer response and discussion. I have never been able to talk with much people, and less in English, but here in this class I learned how to do it without feeling ashamed or insecure about me. The truth about sqrs is that I had never made an sqr before. When the teacher told us to write an sqr, I felt that my world was coming down because I had no idea about what an sqr was. After we were told what they were I did my best to make them the way the were supposed to be. Peer response and discussions helped me a lot because they helped me to feel more confident about what I write and read.
The experience I got from my projects is something very important to me because those were the first projects that I made as an student of an school where English is the main language. I must confess that I was very exited about my first project because I felt that it was like some kind of game or something, I didn't see it like a challenge or something like that. I used to think while making my first project as something fun, I wasn't scared at all.
Of course I had some problems like all of us may have had, but I faced them and I did pretty well after that. I faced problems with my writing structure and also I wasn't confident enough about my writing. With my projects I had some issues with making the interviews because I had no idea of what kind of questions should I ask, but I guess that those problems are the responsible of giving me experience about writing, reading and learning, which made me a better writer.
At last but not least I must say thank you to all of you people of english 1320/1301 :) it was an awesome experience, it was the best writing class ever! Thanks for all the discussions, talks, revisions, laughs and experiences we had together. You helped me a lot and I did learn a lot from all of you. I hope that you never forget what you learned and never give up :D remember we are all writers, no matter what others may say...

On this class we learned also about other students that have different classes and different points of views, on this class we did some investigations and surveys that helped us to learn how other students learn, and what I discovered is that students from different classes and on different grades use some of the strategies that we use and some of them develop their own strategies that are very similar to those that we use, what it tells me is that these strategies are some of the best strategies and also the more effectives
Taking this class have helped me a lot on my improvement of my learning, especially on reading and writing, because now I use this strategies to help myself on the majority of my activities that I do daily, so this way I can gain more experience and also have a better understanding of these strategies.

At this time I realized that even though i do appreciate the time we are given to write in class, I much rather write and revise in a more isolated place.

Project 4 Reflective Essay: Norma
This class taught me a lot, but the most important one was that it made me more comfortable with my own writing. When I first came to this class I brought my knowledge from my English classes from high school. I took a English class last semester but it was more about reading. I knew how to write essays where there was an intro in which it had a thesis statement that according to my teacher from high school was the most important sentence in the whole essay. After the intro we had a three-body paragraph, in which in each paragraph sometimes we needed to have a quote explain it in our own words and why we chose it. And at the end we had our conclusion in which we had everything summarized it was more of like a review. It also taught me how to do an elaborate research paper, which I've done before but it was more simple meaning that we didn't have surveys, experiments, interviews etc, which I found helpful because is a way to prove your theory.
One of the things that I learned during this course was doing SQRs. When the teacher first said that we were going to do them I had no idea what they were, I’ve never done them before. The first two SQRs that I did I was confused and kind of did them the wrong way. Then I started doing the others and I got used to it and. I also learned how to become a better writer and reader. The articles taught me a lot on information I didn’t know about school, they were kind of long and boring but they had a very interesting concept, like Misconceptions about reading and writing for example that grammar is more important than content, Funds of Knowledge which is the way we learn and Peer Response which helps both the reader and writer. I had done research projects on high school, but I really don't remember a lot about them, so doing the research was like refreshing my memory.
The questions I had this semester were why is it so important to have discipline while writing? Does a kid's background affect on the way they learn? Does helping on other's draft makes everyone improve their writing skills? What is the main thesis all about; Do you need to actually have one on a research paper? Do you have to be an experienced writer to have a good revision on another person's paper? After going to class and discussing it with everybody I have their answers, It is important to have discipline while writing because is a way you can express your knowledge and if you do it with discipline your writing will catch people’s eye. I think that culture does have a lot to do on the way you see things, or view the world. For a lot of children language is a barrier, but in fact these kids have the same capabilities as a person who speaks the language. Helping, or trying to correct other's essays does help a lot. In my case it gives me an idea on what I can change on the essay, and a way to make it better. Listening to other student's ideas helps me understand the reading better, and it gives me different points of view. In my opinion the thesis statement is about your main ideas, and what your paper is going to be about. I don’t think you actually need to have one, but you at least need to have a very well written paragraph that shows your main point. You don’t have to be an expert; everyone has their own ideas, which can help other people.
I learned that it is very important to listen to other people’s ideas and opinions, you might not agree with them but it is helps you understand something in an another person’s point of view. When we got in groups and talked to everyone and discussed for example the articles it was very interesting how they agree or disagree with me. We talked about how our projects were going, how we did them. It was helpful because I got to see that I wasn’t the only one struggling with my class work.
In conclusion what I found on my investigations like for example on the research paper which my hypothesis was that note taking helped students with their learning skills was that it of course helps them increase their knowledge, for me notes improve my grades, and I think is a big part on a students life. This class made me more confident with my writing, I am a better writer and I really enjoyed working with everybody, at the beginning it seemed that it was a lot of work but with everyone’s help it was easy.

Project 4 Essay: Arturo Rodriguez
At first I never understood what everything was like and still confused that I needed to redo what I seen, even though I passed it. Giving that the whole situation was hard on me, as of silent and unable to give out oppinions or ideas. Though I learned lots of things as I gone through this class. Given the things from this place I am able to write as I would, if it wasn't like a non-school related writings that I do.
On on how the writing and reading was in school, yet could not envoke them right. As I had negative and non-helpful feedback on the work I had trouble with it. My work was that everything was mainly just structure and grammar, with the idea of putting parts of thoughts into the work. As for reading, I had no idea to actually find the main points into the readings easily, as I seen others find it so easily.
On my round through the subjects I had some well thought outs on the work. The SQR were a heavy problem on my account of work. I really had hard time with them, I never can make questions to answer well enough. Though later on I could handle them easily enough through some guidance from the teacher and fellow classmates. The Readings were also tougher then I had once expected. The items were shaggy and were overly hard to create, not many of them could do a thing like that. Also finding Articles through those sea of pages for Project two was difficult to say the least. Their were things that fitted in the work while their were others that seemed to have a non-holding and un-trustworthy source. Though with them, I was able to open my thoughts on what was good and how each thing effected a person.
Discussions in class were very helpful as we got through them. It helped understand what others see about the work. Example is that of the Revise and Rewrite from the works of Sommers, on how people believed that revised mean to make anew while Rewrite was to just change a few parts while others thought of it the other way around. Also it brought out feedback that helped people out with things they couldn't complete or have missed. Though I had trouble with blogger a bit. I have great typing skills where I can type fast, and with blogger you can always add or change work, but using the blogger had difficulties like power-outs, connection losses, and other things.
From all the items I have done the projects were possibly the best I done in the years of school. I had major advances in work style, in fact the work I done was more then that of 5th to 12th grade combined, making me wonder how I even passed those classes. Though the work was well from the stand point of it all. Like of project 2, it had lots of hardening things and crushing feels as I post it out. Long lost but it was great feel to it, and a fun time doing it. The other item was that it had no difficults in them either.
Though I did feel good about them I didn't as much as I started revising them. The work was slightly killer. For instance trying to re-structure paragraphs in the projects to make them more clear and consistent to the work. I had nothing but trouble doing that. Though giving it that, I had better thoughts on how to redo things, like my project 1 item that was never completed. It gave me time to do things that I knew wasn't fully in their peak.
With everything, I learned a lot this semester, like I said before, from all my years of school combined. I learned how to be a rhetorical reader, finding the little things and exploding them into items, and I learned about Funds of Knowledge, the intelligence given from family and the community you are in. Things that was given to me, that strengthens me, like classmates and the readings, it has a heavier thing then what I could have done before. This, is where I say thanks to the class and thanks to the teacher for the work and the things that were given to me, to actually change from a person who thought things were of precision to that of understanding.

Reflective Essay Project 4 Nora Cruz
You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives. ~Clay P. Bedford
In this course I have learned how the writing process works. We have read different articles that contain important facts that helped us as students to understand reading and writing in a different way. The important fact of all this is the help we received from teacher, interns and our classmates. Basically that helped us throughout the class, without the help from others we would not be able to make it.
All my background for reading and writing was not that good, even though I have always like reading. During High school I participated in reading and writing contests like spelling bee's or accelerated reading contests. But I have never done essay projects before, so it was a totally new experience for me. I was totally excited to receive this course because since It is my first semester at a total new place for me, total different education system, but at the same time it was a challenge, even though I studied at a bilingual school I am used to receive classes in english but I will never be the same as actually having english as our main language. But I did have the expectations to put all my efforts into it, and to achieve a good grade.
From my investigations and research I learned how reading and writing can be applied to Any general topics, like they are all related. you can really learn From your research, you can see how a public document can inspire people around you and public documents can help others express their ideas.
With all this i learned many others concepts throughout the process of research like for example the parts of the essay, the uses of note taking, how to understand funds of knowledge ia better way.
In this writing class I have learned important concepts as funds of knowlege, rhetorical reading, and peer response, which I considered were the most important ones in our learning process. Those concepts I could use them easily because I understood those concepts in a practical way, in a creative way we applied them during class so that helped also to strenghten the idea of what those words meant. I liked how we discuss them in class and gave them different concepts, concepts which we could understand in our own words that made it easier for us to catch the idea better. Also we discussed the articles we read and we all discussed what we thought of each author, we shared if they expressed their ideas correctly or if they just confused us more.
The main questions that I think everyone came up with was: Am I doing this correct? Is my writing good? But I think we all got answers throughout the process, we received feedback from the teacher, from our classmates. So I think the class worked well the way I did, it was interactive enough to keep us interested on the work during class.
One of the most important processes of our class sessions was the conversations we developed from our writings with other students, and even with the interns. We received helped from all the people in the writing studio, so I think that was a big success because it made us feel we were not alone along this process, that If we looked for help we can find it and we can make it through. Also we had many technological facilities in the class that made things run much easier for us and for the teacher, I liked the fact everything was done online and in that way we kept things simple and not complicate each other turning in papers, etc.
The use of the Ipads was really efficient and made us feel comfortable with the class and the fact that we would have time to work in class for our projects. During the course we did many reading, and many writing, we even had to do some research, handout surveys, etc. I like this part of the research because we did something that we were not used to do in class, so that was exciting to try something different but always applying it to the writing and reading topics.
Of course, I did have complications during the course, one of them : time. Since I work and also go to school I need to find the correct time to get my assignments done. I needed to create a study schedule that includes staying up until late to study for quizzes or to get my assignments done. I think that was one of my main difficulties I came up with. But I also had minor ones, like not having enough words to complete my essays, or not understanding a reading, etc.
I think this was a good course, we all learned from it, we all shared our experiences with it. It was very good that we all get along so well and that we all helped each other. So I feel like I have learned a whole different concept of writing and reading and also I am looking forward to apply all that knowledge in all my classes.

Reflective Essay 4
I started learning English since I was in kindergarten. My first classes were really easy. I began learning the colors and the numbers. The time passed, and my classes turned a little bit difficult. I learned to write complete sentences, then paragraphs until my paragraphs turned into a complete essay. But I realize something, even though I already knew how to write in English it wasn't the same to write it on my native language, Spanish. People may say that if you know the words in English and you understand it you can write it, but for me it doesn't works that way. For me to write goes beyond knowing the spelling or the grammar of the words. You need to find a way to express your ideas clearly and to make coherence on them if you want other people to understand you. During all my life my teachers thought me that one of the bases of writing was grammar. It didn't care if I wrote on English or Spanish they used to take points off my paper if I have a grammar mistake and now I realize that they didn't even pay attention to what I wrote. I used to agree with them that grammar was so important, and I do consider that now, but with this class now I can say that having no mistakes won't lead you to a good written paper. In order to have a good writing you not only need to write correctly, you need to be clear, you need to use examples, quotes, know your audience and not be afraid to commit a mistake.
When I first arrived to this class I remember that on the first reading the authors asked the question "Is writing universal?" and I remember that my first answer was, "yes it is". Even though they said it wasn't I couldn't agree with them because I thought that if I wrote something anyone in any place could understand me but over the days I prove I was wrong. Writing can't be universal for lots of reasons, and that is one of the things that I learned during this course. Why is not writing universal? Because, for example, if you write about your culture you can't expect that in China they will understand it because first of all they are not going to agree with you due to the differences of cultures. What I’m saying is that writing can't be universal because the topic you are talking about is not directed to everyone, also you need to see if you are writing to kids, to teens or to adults. Writing varies lots with ages.
Another thing that I learned with this class is that we are all a little bit afraid to speak a language that is not our native one. I remember the class when we had the activity of speaking in the language we were learning. The ones who speak Spanish needed to speak in English and the ones who speak English needed to speak in Spanish. That class actually was one of my favorites because we got to see what our classmates were feeling and we got to realize that we were not the only ones afraid to talk in our second language and that speaking and learning other language is something that we should be proud about.
I also learned lots of concepts, for example peer response, funds of knowledge, interpretation, comprehension, rhetorical reading, things that I already knew but I got the opportunity to applied them on my research projects. Even though learning concepts was a main part of this course I believe that one of the things that we all enjoyed the most were the experiences we had during the semester. I think that we all opened a bit more our minds in order to see other people opinions and we learned to listen to them.
Even though it was harder for me to arrive on time to class and to catch up with all the written projects, sqrs and journals that we needed to write I really liked the class. We had a really comfort atmosphere were we all could give our points of view and different opinions. Working in teams, answering questions, giving examples and quoting authors helped not only me but all my classmates to make this class more interactive and funny.
Reflective essay
Well who's not nervous and especially for their first day at an English remedial class. Well I expected an old lady who was bored and wanted everything perfect. I went into class not knowing what we were going to do. I thought it was going to be boring and that we were going to be sitting on desks and writing on cold white paper. But then as the instructor came I was like who is she? She said she was going to be the teacher for the semester. Well she was not as old I expected to be and I think she was wearing a wonder woman shirt. I thought to myself maybe the teacher is not as bad as I expected it to be. Then she mentioned that we were going to move class rooms to a studio. I was like wow it was not what I had expected it to be. Then we got to start using technology in our writing, it was better and funner than writing with pen/pencil and paper. It was not your typical classroom.
Well my reason for being in this class was because the score I took on a certain test was not good enough. All my life since probably kinder garden I had been thought just to write pain and simple; and showed that there were only few ways of writing for example narrative and persuasive; And was never really thought that there was other ways of writing. For me writing an even some times reading were difficult to me because I was the first English speaking person in my family and sometimes had problems trying to express myself in writing. Before I came to class way of writing was like elementary writing very basic and plain writing. I wouldn’t go into detail and would just be generalize and my audience was the teacher for that class. Also the amount of writing I had done before was very minimal and I would just write the necessary.
As I came to class one of the first things we did was read some articles and do SQR’s. Neither there was a problem I had no idea what was an SQR was nor never do one before. Articles I had read before but in this class we wend deeply into them and analyzed it deeply compared to my prior experiences where we just read and discussed. My experiences of reading the articles had a big impact on me because I had never analyzed an article before I was never thought to analyze a reading. But in this class we did and broke it down into pieces and asked questions to why this or why that. And also learned to find the reason why the author wrote it and for who did he write it for. After reading the articles we had to do SQR’s. In it there was a summary and question and answer to that question. I had summarized before but I had never asked a question about an article and nether less answer my own question. By doing this I found it easier to understand what they the article was talking about.
Well i had a great experience with the blogger it was one of the things I had never done before. I found it interesting because I am part to a forum and found it somewhat related. Through this blogger I could post work without printing it out and taking it though the teacher and also I could go back and edit my writing. Discussion in this class were important without the discussion I we wouldn’t had been able to see on certain things I had missed out on or see things a certain way. Feedback wich to me is information given back about something you did or are doing; was also an important part. in all of this we got feedback from peers or interns or the teacher. Sometimes we got feedback through the blogger. Without feedback we could have made our paper better. By getting feedback we see what we missed or certain things that were not clear enough by having feedback we could make our writing better. Most of the journals I had had on the past were actually in a journal or a note book. These journals were in the blogger. In some of the journals I would go back and reflect or sometimes I would talk to myself in them.
I had never done as many projects in a class as in this class. Some of the projects I did I could have never done for other classes such as play a musical instrument and relate it to a theory or idea I had. For one of the projects I did I brought my accordion and played some music and see if prior knowledge and experience affected our way of giving meaning. a poster was a another project I did by doing a poster i could test out my theory which was how prior knowledge affects our way of giving meaning. All of the projects I did had a reason to them even though most of them at simple or plain view didn’t look like it. Some of the problems I faces was coming up with what to do for a project.
Revision for me was a whole new experience revision for me before was to go back and check for spelling and punctuation. Revision in this class was a whole different thing the teacher didn’t even care about spelling she cared about what was the message in the reading. Revision for me is rethinking, rewriting, and re format your writing. For me revision is practically like fixing the bugs. Sometimes it got tough with revision I could find how to fix it but by getting feedback it would make it easy and found out was I need to work and what to work on. And the best way we could revise was through peer response which is information given back to you from your peers.
This class 1320/1301 has reshaped and changed my way of thinking of certain things for example revision and also helps me define new things like rhetorical reading and founds of knowledge which is the knowledge we bring from home. In this class I learned and understood who to make my writing better and better ways to understand what I’m reading. After this class I think I’m on a better path to better writing and reading. Some of the problems I had in reading and writing were to understand them clearly but after analyzing and doing certain things several times I got to understand them better.
At first I had a whole different concept of the class but at the end found out it was better than what I had expected. Also the same thing happened to my way of thinking towards reading and writing. After doing new things and redefining certain concepts I had I think my writing and reading strategies are better than before and I accomplished this by putting effort and with the help of the great clas

When found out that was going to be taking a remedial class it was kind of a disappointment for me because I felt that i was a bad writer. At first when I walked in I was overlwhelmed because my teacher in high school told me that grammar is very important in writing. I agree but the problem is Im not very good at it. Then I come in to this class were grammar isn't really enforced I believe that was a dis advantage to me. Reason I say that I beleive that one of the reason am in this class.
As the class began it got really intresting beacuse we were working in a class that had alot of technology. which i love but then its really a flaw cause of all the social networks that can distract you. We began doing sqr at first i had no clue what that was, but then i learned what it was i really didnt like doing them beacuse they were really hard at times. i would always confuse the summary with the reponse. But they were helpfull because in order to do them you had to read the articles. So one of the expirence i had in class was reading the articles were the audience was for teachers that was really confusing beacuse i couldnt relate to it. so i didnt know how to understand it fully. one of the moments i like was when would have to read an article then we had disscusion with th whole class. i like that beacuse it intresting to hear what other people think and understood from reading it.

Reflective Essay Project 4 Luis Galvan
At first I didn't know what to expect for a 1320/1301 class, how bad it's going to be? I remember that I was already late for the first class of the semester without expectations at all. I add this class the night before the first one because of my laziness and because I don’t think there was any mistake and I learned a lot during the semester. As I said earlier I really didn’t know what to expect for the class, I just brought to class my experience as a student but none as a writer in English. Being from Mexico I knew that the language would be an obstacle for this class because before this class I’ve just written in Spanish and now be in an English writing class would be a very difficult challenge.
Throughout the semester I applied to every single class activity my experience and absolutely everything I wrote and thought was because of the way I’ve learned through life. I learned several important terms for the semester and one of the first of all of them that helped me was funds of knowledge. While we were learning this term, I realized that every time we learned something is due funds of knowledge because this is how we used what we know in order to receive more. Another terms that I learned was feedback and revision, I mention this two because they are related to each other. Every time you do revision you are getting feedback. Feedback is getting people ideas about your work in order to improve it because one thing I really make an effort to in the semester was feedback. Without feedback and revision you are going now where.
At the beginning of the semester we started to read articles addressed to teachers and although many times these lectures were boring, I always try to get something useful. SQRs were such a big deal for me because they represent reading and writing at same time. After reading several times the every article and through the practice SQRs become easier to do because every time I do one experience were gained. Moll and Gonzalez was one of the articles I like the most because I learned a lot from its content about funds of knowledge. All the examples they put were really useful in the understanding of the lecture because they tell us about real life cases that allow us to develop some kind of conscious about the importance of funds of knowledge in our life.
In the class we went through several projects, in some of them we develop new theories. In my case project 1 and 2 was all about the way we learned. I had an amazing experience and learned a lot by making all the investigations, researches, surveys and putting all the information together. Sometimes you don’t see what you are learning instantaneously but now that I am writing project 4 I can realized that my skills in writing have improve a lot. Now I can sit and write about everything we have done in the semester without thinking the whole thing in Spanish.
Something that really help me in my process of learning for this class was the all the effort I put to this class in order to get everything done in the best way possible. Having all that feedback and revision really help me process every single idea in a better form, so that my understanding will become better and in that way my works improve.
I enjoy being in this classroom, everything a student can ask for learning was there. We have pretty much of everything like technology, an excellent teacher, interns and classmates that make this English class nicer and enjoyable rather than being just a requisite class for the school. For the technology I can say that having all that iPads, Macs and even those bad markers help through the semester to make it easier. Without all that technology everything would had been old school with just a paper and a pencil for class. The interns were great too because they help us in the process of rethinking all the ideas and make our projects look better with all that feedback that was from them. I think they are really helpful for our teacher because there is a lot of work to do with so many students and a single teacher wouldn’t be enough. Bonnie was great too, even though she always told me to shut up and put me to work. She was nice and comprehensive but at the same time she pushes us through all this work. Thanks to her I can say that I’ve never been in a class that put me in to so much writing and rethinking. For my classmates I can say that all the feedback from them was a very important thing in the semester and that we make a pretty good team. I know that now I am able to keep learning in the next English class.
