Have questions about our research process, your writing, how to get started with this all? Comment to this post and we'll talk about it. :)

See a question you can answer? Feel free to! Maybe you don't have a question but instead just wanna let us know how things are going? Go for it! I'd love to hear! :)

The rap session will remain open until 5pm.

Get drafts posted up tonight if you haven't already: drafts must include Intro, lit review(that's your discussion of other's ideas) your connection piece (between others ideas and yours) , and your methodology (in wihch you introduce your research to us: what it is you will do, how you will do and what you hope to find).

See everyone on Monday! P2 is nearly complete! :)

  2. Ok, Rudy. Firstly, don't panic and don't worry. When you say you have no idea how to start is that you don't know how to begin your essay or is that you are unsure where to begin with your ideas and your research?

Let's start with your intro, as this will lay the ground work for your entire essay. (it, in a sense can work as a written outline for what you intend to do). We disucssed your interest and what you were going to do and it's sitting in your proposal (maybe it's changed a little? That's ok, let those changes happen in your intro! :) )

    So here's your proposal:

My interest is in our funds of knowledge and how what we know helps us. How does being bilingual help you when your reading for content? It helps u in the way that you can use the other language you know as a sort of thesaurus. I'm planning on using the articles of M&G since opt talks about backgrounds and experience and H&F because it talks about reading and understanding it, I will also create a survey to help me demonstrate how bilingualism helps.

That sounds like an intro waiting to expolode! :D SO let's explode it shall we? Why is it that you are interested in Funds of knowledge? How exactly does it help us? What does being bilingual have to do with your funds of knowledge? Why is it that you compared it to a thesuarus (is that a fund of knowledge? How? Can you give me an example perhaps? Your own expirence?) You've got two great sources and you do a good job of explaining what M&G and H&F are talking about (REading and understanding)! What does that have to do with being bilingual? Can you find on more source to add to your intro by tomorrow?

I think you have an excellent start, taking into account all the questions I just asked and post your intro up tonight! Then I'd like you to do onto JSTOR and look up one more article (http://lib.utpa.edu/research/redirect/jstor), begin reading and bring it to class tomorrow! Your keywords are your interests! Funds of knowledge, reading and bilingualism!

That's all! Let's get this much done tonight! Intro revised and posted and extra source found and bought to class tomorrow! :)

  4. That is the Writer's Dillema!~ We're often overwhelmed by ideas! I'm going through it myself right now to as I write through my thesis!

Let's start with your proposal! Use it! Take the questions I asked you and begin revising (this may mean deleting a sentence or two and rewriting it to include an answer, this may mean simply editing to include an answer or an experience that illustrates that answer. You've got the ideas, don't worry about how they sound, just get them all down!) I don't care if its messy and chatoic and all over the place, in fact the messier, the more chaotic, the better. :) WRite down every idea, even if they're just half-ideas, down and use them to revise your proposal into a 150-200 word intro.

I'll be on the look out for it tonight and tomorrow morning and we'll talk through the rest of your essay tomorrow! :)
